Exploring St Regis in Bali: Gourmand Deli and Remede Spa

It was not in our itinerary to explore The St. Regis Bali Resort, on our first day in Bali. It was supposed to be checking in to our hotel at Courtyard Nusa Dua Resort, taking a shower, having lunch and lazing around in the hotel. However, despite having indicated in our online booking form that we intend to do early check-in, we were told to come back after 3pm because our rooms were not ready. Tired from lack of sleep the night before, and hungry because we haven’t eaten anything since the night before, we decided to roam around outside the hotel. We walked through Bali National Golf Club, and ended up at St Regis.

At the lobby, perhaps looking like from outer space, we were greeted by a staff who asked us where we were going to. We said that we were looking for a place to have lunch. The staff checked with Boneka Restaurant and then told us that Breakfast Buffet operating hour will be ending in 15 minutes, he suggested us to go to Gourmand Deli instead, to which we said ok. Then, he walked with us to Gourmand Deli, while talking on walkie talkie almost all the time. I don’t want to sound negative, but I felt that his gesture suggested he was suspicious of us because we were not the guests of St Regis. I didn’t feel the friendly vibes from this staff.

Moving on to Gourmand Deli, the staff (Dewa) absolutely deserved a praise, especially for being so attentive. We ordered a milk fat lamb and a plate of nasi goreng (fried rice). While waiting for the food to be served, the staff offered us garlic bread which were very helpful considering we were close to starving. Once we finished a plate of bread, he asked if we’d like to have another plate. We gladly said yes. Our lunch eventually came out and it was delicious. Nasi goreng was presented in a big portion. The staff also introduced us to SPG (Starwood Preferred Guest) program. It’s a loyalty program which allows members to earn and redeem points in all of their participating hotels, and even in airlines. And registration was free of charge. We signed up without hesitation.

After finishing our lunch, my two friends wanted to do pedicure at Remede Spa. We asked Gourmand staff on how to walk to Remede Spa. Surprisingly, he offered to call for a buggy to bring us there. We were more than excited. The buggy came not long after. The buggy driver gave us introduction to the properties of St Regis. It was indeed a beautiful resort.

At Remede, my friends made the booking for pedicure but was told to wait for 2 hours for the next available slots. The staff suggested that we could wait at the gazebo for the time being. We were also given 3 welcome drinks even though I didn’t book for any of their services. The gazebo faces a beautiful pool and is surrounded by plenty of trees and greenery. There is also an artistic butterfly wall facing the pool and gazebo. It was a hot noon, we soon fell asleep, but woke up when the sun got hotter. Once it was near appointment time, the therapists came to our gazebo to guide us into spa room. I sat in the room while waiting. We were offered another round of drink! Gosh, they were really friendly. At the end of the spa, the therapists help to call a buggy to send us to the main gate.

It was a great experience to be treated with extraordinary customer service like this. But it was an expensive place to enjoy food and spa. It was honestly beyond my budget. However if you can afford, you should treat yourself at St Regis!

Tips:
1. You can view Gourmand Deli’s latest menu here.
2. You can view Remede Spa’s latest menu here.
3. St Regis Sunday Brunch at Boneka Restaurant is quite popular and deserves a try.
