As parents, we are always looking for things to do with our daughter on the weekends. My husband and I enjoy running, so when we read about CDC Walking Trails programme, we were immediately hooked.
The idea of earning vouchers while walking sounded like a fun extra incentive, so we decided to try one of the trails nearest to our area: Kampong Glam.
In this article, I’ll share what the CDC Walking Trail is, what you can expect from the Kampong Glam route, and what our experience was like doing it as a family with our toddler.
What is the CDC Walking Trail?
The CDC Walking Trail is an initiative by GovTech Singapore and the five CDCs that encourages residents to walk more while exploring different parts of Singapore.
At the time of writing, there are 10 trails to choose from. For each trail, participants can earn up to $15 in CDC vouchers, depending on reward availability.
The $15 CDC voucher is made up of:
- $5 for completing the trail
- $5 for finding all the mystery Ollies in the original trails; or $10 for Heritage trails
Before starting a trail, it is a good idea to check whether the rewards are still available so you won’t be disappointed if they have already been fully redeemed.
To complete a trail, you need to visit all the checkpoints, take photos of the landmarks, and answer a question about each checkpoint.
Kampong Glam is part of Heritage trails, so you’ll get $10 for finding all the Ollies. However, the reward availability is really limited. During our time, the $10 Ollie rewards have been fully redeemed so we only received the $5 for completing the trail.
The vouchers are given to individuals and not households, so if you do it with your spouse, both of you can each earn the CDC vouchers! Only Singapore citizens and PRs are entitled to these rewards.

The Kampong Glam CDC Walking Trail covers a distance of about 4km and the estimated duration is around 1 hour 15 minutes.
In our case, it took us much longer to complete because we were doing it with a toddler and made a dinner stop along the way.
In total, we spent about 2 hours 40 minutes, including around 1 hour for dinner in the middle of the walk.

The 5 checkpoints on this trail are:

Food, Drinks and Toilets Along the Way
When planning a day out with a child, we always need to think about whether there will be places to get food, drinks, or use the toilet along the way in case we need to take a break.
Based on our experience, here are places along this Kampong Glam Heritage Trail to find food, drinks or toilets:
- Before starting the trail: The Central at Clarke Quay, Funan, Raffles City, CityLink
- Between CP1-CP2: CHIJMES
- Between CP2-CP3: Bugis Junction
- Between CP3-CP4: City Gate
- Between CP4-CP5: Aperia Mall
- After completing the trail: Jalan Besar has plenty of restaurants
Our Experience Doing the Kampong Glam CDC Walking Trail With a Toddler
Since our daughter is still young, we let her sit in the stroller throughout most of the trail.
We started in the late afternoon so the weather would be less hot, which made the walk more manageable. Even then, sitting in a stroller for a long stretch can get boring for a toddler, so we tried to break things up with drinks and food stops along the way.
Before the walk, we bought milk from Funan so she had something to keep her occupied. Along the route, we also came across several orange juice vending machines, which she enjoyed, so that helped too.

At around 7pm, we were feeling hungry and happened to be near the Lavender area, so we decided to make a detour for dinner at Tai Hwa. That stop added quite a bit of time to the outing, but it also made the experience feel more relaxed and less rushed.
After finishing the trail, we celebrated our victory with a supper at Ponggol Nasi Lemak, which is only a few hundred metres away.
The good thing about ending the walk at Jalan Besar is that there is a lot of food around the Jalan Besar area!
