Hotel Faber Park Singapore Review: Deluxe Room with Balcony

Hotel Faber Park Singapore Review: Deluxe Room with Balcony

Please share this article if you think it's awesome!

Hotel Faber Park is a 4-star hotel and also the inaugural hotel of Handwritten Collection, which is Accor’s brand that features charming small to mid sized hotels in trendiest locations.

Built during Covid period, Hotel Faber Park Singapore opened its door in the Q4 of 2023. My spouse and I stayed in this hotel in December 2023 when the hotel was still fairly new.

We paid around SGD 244 for a 2-night stay in Superior Room without breakfast. Because I was holding Accor ALL Gold status, I got upgraded to Deluxe Room with balcony (still, without breakfast).

Because a staycation isn’t complete without breakfast, I decided to pay a walk-in price for the breakfast. I will share more in the Breakfast section.

In this article, I will cover:

Overview

Location

As the name suggests, the hotel is located near Mount Faber, Singapore’s second highest hill with a picturesque view of the Sentosa that also serves as one of the 3 stations of Singapore Cable Car.

Before you jump into conclusion, no, Mount Faber is NOT right next the hotel. The truth is, to get to Mount Faber, you need to walk about 1-2km from the hotel, depending on which part of Mount Faber you’re heading to. And you need to walk uphill, because the hotel is located at the foot of Mount Faber.

For what it’s worth, Mount Faber is 106m above sea level. Assuming the hotel is at 10 or 20m above sea level, you will need to hike about 80m uphill to get to the top of Mount Faber. If you love hiking, this is a great opportunity to explore one of the hidden gems of Singapore.

I personally LOVE Mount Faber. It’s quiet, offers breathtaking views, has various attractions and connects to plenty of great trails, such as Henderson Wave, and the Southern Ridges. Read my guide on Mount Faber Park.

Hotel Faber Park is just 2 bus stops away from VivoCity, one of the largest malls in Singapore which also connects the mainland and Sentosa Island. If you’re planning to visit Sentosa and you want to stay nearby, Hotel Faber Park is an option to consider.

This review will be about Deluxe Room with Double Bed and Balcony.

Facilities

Hotel Faber Park has a rooftop swimming pool and an on-site restaurant called The White Tiffin Fusion.

There is no gym, and no spa. Probably gym-goers should use this opportunity to explore the hiking trail to Mount Faber?

Check In

The official check-in time is 3pm. I didn’t request for early check-in because I had other commitments in the early part of the day.

I turned up at 3pm and faced with quite a crowded lobby. Guests were queueing to check-in, as can be seen in the below photos.

I was in my late second trimester at that time, it was challenging for me to queue for a long period of time. I asked one of the staff, the man in black, if I can queue while sitting at the sofa. He assured me that I can sit at sofa and he would call me when it’s my turn to check-in. Hats off to the crews for being understanding and helpful!

Outside the check-in period, the lobby is pretty empty! Below is the photo of lobby situation at 1pm the following day. If you have Accor ALL Silver status and above, I do recommend that you request for early check-in to avoid the crowd.

On a side note, I love how green and refreshing the lobby decor is. There is a green wall filled with (artificial?) plants.

Because it was Christmas season, there was a colorful Christmas Tree with white reindeers at the lobby which are too cute not to take picture with.

Accor Status Benefits

As an ALL Gold status holder, I booked Superior Room and got upgraded to Deluxe Room with balcony. I was so excited because the balcony room is the highest tier room in the hotel and I LOVE a room with a view of the mountain! It feels so different from the concrete jungle that I’m used to!

I didn’t request for early check-in or late check-out, so I couldn’t report whether it was easy for the hotel to accommodate these requests.

When I asked about welcome drinks, the receptionist said that they don’t provide welcome drinks, instead, they provide free minibar. Oh, well, I guess that works too! It’s just that I’m not sure whether the free minibar is for everyone, or for Accor Elite status holders only.

And there’s definitely no Welcome Amenity for Gold status holders.

Deluxe Room with Balcony

The Deluxe Room with Double Bed and Balcony is the biggest room in the hotel with the size of 23 m² / 247 sq ft.

My first impression was, “Oh, it’s smaller than I imagined it to be.” And my subsequent impression immediately after that was, “Wow, I love this room! Everything is new and nice! And look at the balcony!”

So, as you can see from the photos below, the room is quite compact. When you step into the room, you get toilet on the left and minibar on the right. A few steps forward and you’ll arrive at the bed. Immediately after the bed, it’s already the balcony.

Not pictured: the gap between the bed and sliding door is too narrow. If you’re plus size (like the pregnant me), it is so difficult to get onto the bed from the side.

As we were celebrating my birthday, the staff folded a cute swan towel with flower petals and a handwritten card. It’s a sweet gesture tbh! No cake though.

The balcony is a full-width balcony, with full-height walls on both sides for privacy. There’s a table with two cushioned chairs.

However, the balcony is unsheltered. It rained during my first day of stay, so the balcony became practically unusable unless I wipe down the water.

On my second day of stay, it didn’t rain but the weather was so hot, it wasn’t enjoyable to sit outside during the day. So, the only time it makes sense to use the balcony is early morning or in the evening.

I feel that the lack of shelter is a design flaw. I thought it is a given that all balconies in Singapore should have some sort of shelter to render it usable.

The view from the balcony gives some kind of tranquility. There are quite a number of buildings around. And behind these buildings, there are so many greeneries. We could even see the cable car. For me, the balcony is a great place to sip coffee and find inspiration early in the morning (not when it’s hot or raining).

Now, let’s get back to the room. Hanging on the wall is a smart TV that has Netflix, YouTube, Prime Video and Google Play. But you need to sign in with your own account.

Below the TV, there is a power outlet with a portable table right below it, presumably to put your gadgets when you’re charging them.

More power outlets can be found beside the bed. On one side of the bed (next to toilet), there is a desk with phone, tissue, lamp, and multiple power outlets.

On the other side of the bed (next to sliding door leading to balcony), there is a tiny side table, night lamp and a power outlet.

The minibar is located next to the sink. I love the white countertop, the huge mirror and the bright lighting!

I love that the sink comes with a tap for filtered water. It is definitely more hygienic than other hotels that provide water dispenser in the corridor, because we don’t need to share the usage with other guests!

Hung from above is a tray of snacks (potato chips, nuts, biscuits) and instant hot beverages.

On the countertop is an electric kettle, a Nespresso machine, some glasses as well as dental kits.

Hidden below the countertop is the fridge. Inside, there were 5 types of soft drinks: Coke, Milo, Pineapple & Mango Juice, 7-Up, and Polar Coconut Water.

Next to the sink is an open wardrobe with two bath robes and some hangers.

Below the open wardrobe is a wooden cabinet where the safe deposit box and slippers can be found. I found it weird that they keep the hairdryer in the drawer! I couldn’t for the life of me find where the hairdryer is, and I had to call the receptionist to ask!

Next to the door is the aircon control panel, light switches and card reader. You can set the aircon temperature and the control panel will show both the current room temperature and the target temperature that you set.

Next to the door, facing the minibar, are the shower and toilet cubicles. Both are separated.

They may look claustrophobic but for me, the size is just nice. I love the combination of blue tiles at the upper wall, and white tiles at the lower wall.

The toilet comes with a bidet. Meanwhile, the shower comes with a rainshower, a handheld shower, as well as shampoo and shower gel.

One thing I don’t like about the shower is that water seeps out of the shower which causes the floor outside the shower to get wet. I’m not sure if the door is faulty or it’s the lack of kerb that causes it.

The shampoo and shower gels are mounted to the wall. I find it difficult to press the bottles because of the mount configuration.

Swimming Pool

The swimming pool is located at Level 6. There isn’t any on-site staff, guests can help themselves with the towels on the shelf, right outside the lift.

The swimming pool is a lap pool overlooking the Telok Blangah Road. It is unsheltered, so the only time we used it was when it’s not too hot and it’s not raining.

There were 2 sun loungers and a couple of chairs at the pool deck, which get fully occupied easily during peak period.

There’s a handicapped toilet at the pool deck. No changing rooms, shower rooms and toilet.

Breakfast at The White Tiffin Fusion

Breakfast is located at The White Tiffin Fusion restaurant at Level 1, right next to the lobby.

We paid SGD60 for breakfast for 2 pax, for 2 days. So, it costs SGD15/pax per meal, which is pretty reasonable. We were asked to pay before we went to breakfast, not when checking-out.

Because it is a 3rd party restaurant and not run by Accor, there isn’t any discount for Accor Plus members.

And because I was just a Gold, not a Platinum status holder in the ALL loyalty program, I didn’t get complimentary breakfast, unfortunately. Had I reached Platinum when I stayed here, I would’ve saved 60 bucks!

So, the White Tiffin Fusion is quite a small restaurant. The number of tables are limited, you might have to share table with other people if there isn’t any private table available.

Or you might end up sitting at the additional high tables at lobby instead of inside the restaurant if the restaurant is packed.

More seats at lobby

On my first breakfast day, I went down at 9.15am and the crowd was insane. People had to queue to wait for available table! I highly recommend that you come for breakfast early to avoid the crowd.

As I was pregnant and unable to join the queue, I asked help from the receptionist and she was really kind. She talked to the restaurant staff to let me know if there are available seats and I could just sit at the sofa at lobby while waiting for my turn. Kudos to the staffs!

As you can see in the photos, the seats are very close to each other. For a plus size like me, it was very hard to walk through the narrow gaps between seats.

Now, let’s talk about the food!

Despite being a small restaurant, the variety of food and the taste are quite good. I had breakfast for 2 days and the food wasn’t repeated on both days.

Here are some photos of the breakfast buffet. For some dishes, I took photos of both days so you can see the differences.

I love the Nasi lemak on the first day, I thought it’s a permanent fixture, but it’s not. On the second day, they had cheese platter instead, which I also enjoyed.

One interesting I noticed at breakfast was that they changed the dish mid-morning! In the early morning, they had fried rice and pasta (pictured above), and then once the pasta was finished, they changed it to fried vermicelli (pictured below). I’m all for variety!

The coffee left much to be desired, though. The latte and cappuccino weren’t strong enough. Had to add espresso to feel the kick.

All in all, I enjoyed the breakfast at the White Tiffin Fusion. Good variety, great taste, prompt refilling. I think it was 60 bucks well spent.

Restaurant

The White Tiffin Fusion is the only restaurant at Hotel Faber Park. The restaurant serves breakfast buffet in the morning, and ala carte Peranakan food in the afternoon. On weekends, it serves Peranakan Lunch Buffet.

Even though the website mentions that the restaurant is open until 9pm, during my stay they only operated until late afternoon. I had planned to order dinner from them, unfortunately, when I reached the restaurant at 5pm, they were already closed.

Final Thoughts

What I love from my stay at Hotel Faber Park:

  • Being upgraded to Deluxe Room Balcony (cos I was Gold status holder)
  • Great services from all the crews; they went the extra miles to accommodate a preggie woman like me
  • Being so close to Mount Faber, I got to enjoy fresh mountain air throughout my stay
  • Even though it’s small, the room was so inviting, I found it hard to leave the bed
  • Great breakfast
  • I love that it’s near VivoCity where there are ample choices of restaurants and retail shops

What I don’t like about my stay:

  • Crowded lobby during check-in at 3pm
  • No welcome drinks and welcome amenity
  • Balcony is unsheltered, which makes it unusable when it’s super hot or when it rains
  • Water from the shower gets into the room
  • Status nights and points only credited after I chased for it

Overall, I enjoyed my stay in Hotel Faber Park. It’s not a perfect hotel, but I can close an eye on some of the issues.

For my fellow Accor status chaser, Hotel Faber Park can definitely be an option for mattress run if you’re looking for mid-tier hotels.
