Previously situated at Resort World Sentosa, the Trick Eye Museum has relocated to Southside in early 2022. After the relocation, the museum is now known as Trickeye @ Southside.

If you’re wondering where exactly the Southside is, well, it’s just 5-min walk from Siloso Point at Sentosa.

The new Trickeye @ Southside has 4 zones and it incorporates Augmented Reality (AR) technology in 2 of the 4 zones.

In this article, I’ll share all the things you need to know before visiting Trickeye @ Southside. At the end of the article, I’ll also share my review of this newly revamped museum.

From Siloso Point, follow the “Southside” sign. You will walk past Southside Interim Market before arriving at Trickeye. There are no ushers who can guide you along the way, but there are enough signs, so I think you won’t get lost.

What to do and see at Trickeye @ Southside

Zone 1: Eco Garden

The first zone is Eco Garden, which can be easily distinguishable from other zones because of its faux grass wallpaper and flooring.

There are about several nature-related exhibits here. My favorite has to be the giant teacup.

Zone 2: AR Trickeye

Zone 2, AR Trickeye, is the zone with AR elements. There’s a QR code and wifi password for you to download their AR app. It took me quite a long time to download using my mobile data, and it’s recommended to download with their wifi instead.

The app allows you to take photo and video. It’s definitely more fun to take videos because videos can capture the animations. Unfortunately, Huawei phones can’t take video using the AR app. As a Huawei user, I only have photos for my keepsake.

I find that my phone battery drains quite fast because of the app. So, do charge your phone to full before visiting.

It’s quite a challenge to figure out how to pose with the AR because you don’t know how the animation looks like. You need to rely on your photographer to tell you how to pose. Let me illustrate what I mean with the below skull & coffin image.

In the offline world, there are no moving hands. But in the AR, there are moving hands coming out from the coffin, but I didn’t know that. My photographer told me to see to my right and act being scared, so I did as told.

Zone 3: Aqua Trickeye

Zone 3, Aqua Trickeye, is also a zone with AR elements. Here, the exhibits are marine-related, so you can expect mermaids, sharks, and dolphins.

With AR, you’ll get plenty of fish swimming around you!

Zone 4: Rainbow Garden

Zone 4, Rainbow Garden, is a non-AR exhibit. Here, you can find plenty of colorful and Instagrammable exhibits. My favorite is undoubtedly the giant baby with a cage.

Tips for making the best of your time at Trickeye Museum

Tip #1: Go with someone who can be your photographer

Trickeye is a place where you want to take lots of photos, so it’s best to go with someone who is willing to be your photographer.

Otherwise, if you visit with someone who hates being your photographer, you should bring a tripod if you don’t want to risk straining your relationship.

Please don’t make the same mistake as me, I visited alone without a tripod or selfie stick! Fortunately, the staff is so kind and volunteered to help me take so many photos. I truly truly appreciate that!

Tip #2: Allow at least 1 hour to explore

Personally, I spent 40 mins at Trickeye @ Southside. I didn’t take photo with every single exhibits.

If you want to explore Trickeye at your own pace, I’d recommend that you allow at least 1 hour of time here.

Do note that the last admission is 6pm and they close at 7pm.

Tip #3: Don’t be afraid to act

You’re allowed to be silly and goofy. Don’t be too serious. Let your guard down and pose as creatively as you want. Nobody is going to judge your silly pose.

If you’re not doing creative poses, you’ll be judged for not making the best of your time!

Tip #4: No idea how to pose? See the sample photos for inspiration

At every exhibit, there are sample photos to give you inspiration, so there’s really no reason not to pose!

Tip #5: Charge your phone battery to full before visiting

You’ll be taking lots of photos and videos, so your phone battery may drain fast. I recommend that you charge your phone battery to full before visiting; or bring powerbank to recharge your phone.

Tip #6: Go to toilet first before entering

There’s no toilet inside Trickeye @ Southside, so do visit the toilet first before starting your Trickeye experience. The nearest toilet is at Southside Interim Market, which is just 1-min walk from Trickeye.

My Review of Trickeye @ Southside

What I like:

I like that every exhibit forces you to think out of the box, figuring out how best to pose. And for people with little inspiration, there are sample photos for people to draw inspiration from.

I like that the space is quite huge and each exhibit is evenly spaced out, so there’s no need to cramp when there’s a crowd.

I especially appreciate the kind gesture from the staff who helped me to take photos because I visited alone and nobody helped me to take photos.

What I think can be improved:

I hope Trickeye can increase the number of zones or exhibits. The previous Trick Eye Museum at RWS has 6 zones while this Southside one has only 4 zones, so it’d be great if the Southside can at least match the previous TEM.

Perhaps Trickeye @ Southside can consider providing rental of tripods or selfie sticks, it’d be truly useful for solo travelers or even group travelers who forgot to bring their tripods/selfie sticks.
