If you’re looking for a unique, one-of-a-kind way to explore Singapore’s key landmarks, Captain Explorer DUKW Tour might be what you’re looking for.
As the name suggest, DUKW Tour (pronounced as Duck Tour) is a tour on a duck-like vehicle. It has a duck shape and it can walk on land and water like a duck 🦆.
I went on my first Dukw Tour recently and I’ll be sharing my full experience in this article.
What is Captain Explorer DUKW Tour?
Captain Explorer DUKW Tour is a 60-min tour around Singapore’s Marina Bay and City Hall on an amphibian vehicle that can walk both on land and water.
Throughout the tour, all you need to do it sit down in the revamped Vietnam War-era vehicle, listen to the stories from tour guide, and marvel at the scenic sights along the way.
As a boat, the duck vehicle goes into the water of Marina Bay and lets you see Singapore Flyer, Gardens by the Bay, Esplanade, Merlion and Marina Bay Sands from the water.
On land, the vehicle drives you around City Hall and passes by iconic landmarks, such as Helix Bridge, Esplanade, Padang, St Andrew’s Cathedral and Suntec City.

What to Expect on Captain Explorer DUKW Tour
The Captain Explorer DUKW Tour is available in the morning, afternoon and early evening. You can choose your preferred timeslot during booking.
For us, our tour started in the late afternoon and extended into the evening. That means, we get to enjoy both day and night views.
To get into the vehicle, we had to climb a flight of staircase. So, if you have elderly family members, do assess whether they’re comfortable climbing a staircase.
During our tour, it wasn’t a full-house situation, and seating was on a first-come-first-served basis. If you’re wondering which side is the best, the good news is both sides are equally good!
When going towards Merlion, the left side will get to enjoy views of Gardens by the Bay and Marina Bay Sands first while the left side gets to see Singapore Flyer and Esplanade up close. When coming back, the reverse will apply, right side will enjoy Flyer and Esplanade while left side will enjoy MBS and GBTB.
From the starting point, the vehicle goes towards Marina Promenade, which is the “splashing point” to get into the water of Marina Bay. The ride on land was quite bumpy which makes it truly a rustic experience! It is a war-era vehicle after all!
Before splashing into the water, we were told to sit further from the side to avoid getting splashed by the water. Fortunately the driver was quite gentle and none of us get wet during the splashing!
My husband and I decided to sit separately, one at the left side and one at the right side, so that we can document the views from both sides and let you have the complete picture of what to expect from the Dukw Tour =) Here are our favorite photos of iconic landmarks that we encountered in chronological order.
As the Dukw enters the water, the right side enjoys a nice view of F1 Pit and Singapore Flyer. Meanwhile, the left side enjoys the view of Tanjong Rhu, Gardens by the Bay and Marina Bay Sands basked in sunset glory.
Next, the right side gets a close-up view of Helix Bridge, The Float and Esplanade. Meanwhile, the left side gets a close-up view of ArtScience Museum and scenic views of the skyline at Marina Bay.
Then, the Dukw moved closer to the Merlion and everyone gets a chance to take a photo with the Merlion. We truly appreciate the tour guide who offered to take our photo.
Done with the Merlion, we headed back to the way we came from. This time, the right side gets the night view of Marina Bay skyline, Marina Bay Sands and ArtScience Museum. Meanwhile, the left side gets the night view of The Float, Helix Bridge, and Singapore Flyer.
Then, the right side gets the night view of Gardens by the Bay and Tanjong Rhu, while the left side gets the night view of F1 Pit.
After that, the Dukw comes out from water and goes around City Hall area, passing by iconic landmarks, such as Helix Bridge, Esplanade, Padang, St Andrew’s Cathedral and Suntec City.
As the ride was quite bumpy and it was a low-light environment at night, most of our photos are blurry. If you want to photograph your entire experience on Dukw tour without worrying about low-light situation, I recommend that you go during the day and avoid the evening timeslot.
